Guardianship of Sarah Gale, daughter of John and Lydia Gale

The top image shows the paper in the probate records of John Gale, father of Sarah Gale, in which a guardian is appointed for Sarah Gale, in her tenth year. The guardian appointed for her and her four siblings was Daniel Benjamin. The bottom image shows the most relevant information enlarged.

This helps to clarify that there was a Sarah Gale born to John and Lydia Gale of Watertown even though her birth is not recorded in the Watertown records. There has been a bit of confusion as to her proper parents with some researchers naming her parents as Richard Gale and Sarah Knights, John Gale's older brother and his wife. This Sarah Gale, in her tenth year, would have been born about 1726/27, the correct age to have been the wife of Josiah Peirce of Worcester. They married in 1743/44 in Waltham, Middlesex, Massachusetts.

Sarah's brother Joshua's will, written in 1747, confirms that his sister is the wife of Josiah Peirce.
