William Louis Brent, World War I Service card, U.S. Navy



William Louis "Tuff" Brent, 1892-1977, the youngest sons of F.C. (Francis Celestino) and Mary Ella Shuttleworth Brent of Pensacola.

William's starting rate was Chief Gunners Mate. Two months later, on July 25th, he served aboard the USS Wheeling, a Navy gunboat built in 1897 which served as a convoy escort during World War I. He advanced from Chief Gunners Mate to Seaman to Yeoman 3 Class. The Wheeling escorted ships in the Mediterranean area until the end of World War I.
