Eliza Pierce Towle

Eliza Pierce was the daughter and second child of Jarvis Peirce Sr. and Rhoda Darby, the sister of Jarvis Pierce Jr. of Harrisburg, Illinois, and the granddaughter of Josiah Peirce and Sarah Gale of Massachusetts. She was born 8 October 1798, married Israel Day Towle 20 April 1816 in Greenburgh, Westchester County, New York. and died 20 July 1876 in Harrisburg, Saline County, Illinois. Israel Day Towle, born 14 April 1787 in Loudon, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, was the son of Jacob and Mary Towle. He died in Harrisburg, Saline County, Illinois on 3 April 1875. They are buried in the old section of the Harrisburg Cemetery.

The images below are copies of pages in the Israel Day Towle family Bible with records of births, marriages and deaths for Israel, Eliza and their children. Thanks to both Cindy Woolsey and Sally V. Houston for copying these vital records. Also copied by these two Towle & Peirce descendants are pages from a letter written by Eliza and Israel's son Albert Towle in a letter to oldest child, Helen, from his home in Beatrice, Nebraska, on 17 February 1878, about a year before he died. The last three pages of the letter contain a record of family births, marriages and deaths, mostly the same information that is in the family Bible except that it is easier to read.
