Marriage license and certificate
John E. Rearden & Emma L. Wilson

John Edward Rearden was the oldest of the eleven children of William Rearden and Elmira Peirce. Born 20 December 1821 in Grayville, Edwards County, Illinois, John was a farmer living just outside Shawneetown, in Gold Hill Township, Gallatin County. He married Emma Lucinda "Lucy" Wilson on 29 July 1848 in Gallatin County. Lucy was born in 1831 in Illinois.

Emma needed the consent of her brother, H. Wilson, in order for the license to be granted. The license is dated 18 July 1848, Equality, Gallatin County, Illinois. They were married on the 29th of July by a Minister of the Gospel.

Lucy died in 1897 in Shawneetown and John died there also, in 1908. Both are buried in Westwood Cemetery in Shawneetown. Lucy's gravestone reads "Emma L. Rearden" rather than Lucy.
