Dr. Peter John Miller

Dr. Peter John Miller, 1917-2014, son of Dr. Edwin Swainson Miller and Helen Beatrice Liardet.

Peter John Miller was born in Malta in 1917, during the First World War, to Edwin Swainson Miller and Helen Beatrice Liardet. Like his father, a surgeon in the Royal Navy, Peter became a General Practitioner after training at St. Bart’s College in London. During World War II he served in the Royal Navy as the naval surgeon on the HMS Aphis, a gunboat.

In 1948, after the war, Peter moved to Rugby, Warwickshire, England, and set up practice, serving the community until he retired in 1982, a well-loved and respected community member.

Peter was married to Doreen Paxton, better known as “Pru,” in 1945 in Plymouth, Devon, England. Besides serving as a borough councillor, Pru served as mayor of Rugby in 1986-87.

Pru died in 2006, age 85, and Peter died in 2014, age 96.
