Obituary: John B. Mare
1886-1967

John Buckingham Mare was born on 19 November 1886 in St. Louis, Missouri, the sixth child of William H. Mare and Jemima C. Scott, both born in England. In a portrait taken of John and his brothers, when John was about ten years old, there are six brothers: William, the oldest, James, Robert, John, and Scott and Stewart, the two youngest. John is center right in the photo. In his obituary there is no mention of any of his family. Robert and James had died before John, but it would seem that he would have some family member or niece or nephew still alive.

John was an accountant and CPA during his life. He was an auditor for the Pensacola Shipbuilding Company in 1919, probably about the time he met Mollie Brent, a Pensacola girl. They married in 1921 and lived most of their married life in Pensacola, with shorter stays in Jacksonville, Florida, and Coronado, California. They had no children, but were well loved by all their nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Mollie died first, in 1964, and Jack in 1967, and are buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Pensacola.
