"An Aged Citizen Dead. Mr. E. Whitted, an aged and honored citizen of Manatee County passed away suddenly from cerebral hemorage on Thursday night at the advanced age of 76 years. Mr. Whitted was a native of North Carolina, but lived several years in the West before coming to Florida about 20 years ago. Since coming to Manatee county, he had resided on Orange Ridge, about three miles south of town, surrounded by sons and daughters and their families, all of whom have nice orange groves and are prosperous. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. B. Tresca on Friday afternoon, and the body laid to rest in the Manatee Cemetery." |

Elbridge Whitted, 1822-1899, was the son of Jonathan Whitted and Nancy Rogers Clark of North Carolina and Indiana. Elbridge moved, about 1880, with his wife, Caroline E. Aldridge, and family to Florida, eventually settling in Oneco in Manatee County. He is buried in New Cemetery, now called Major Adams Cemetery, in Bradenton.
