Marriage license and certificate
Walter Lloyd Bender & Lucy Rearden Hopper

Lucinda McCorkle "Lucy" Rearden was the daughter of Philip A. Rearden and Malinda A. "Dolly" McCorkle and the granddaughter of John Edward Rearden and Emma Lucinda "Lucy" Wilson of Grayville, Illinois. Lucy first married Grover Cleveland Hopper in 1905 but was soon left a widow.

Lucy and Walter Bender were living in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, SE of Tucson, when they applied for a marriage license on 16 June 1910. They were married the same day in nearby Tombstone by a Minister of the Gospel. Walter was an officer in the U.S. Air Force and they spent their married life in many places around the world. They had three children, Lloyd, Truth and Walter. They were living in San Antonio, Texas, when they died in 1962, Walter on 11 April and Lucy on 26 November. They are both buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Lucy, during her lifetime, was an avid genealogist; she gathered material on her ancestors and family and wrote several books. It was her book on the Peirce family that helped the author get started on that line of my family tree, so I am in her debt.
