Resignation of Zephaniah Phillips from the 120th Illinois Regiment

Resignation of 2d Lt. Zephaniah Phillips
from the 120th Reg. Illinois Infantry Volunteers, January 16, 1863.

Zephaniah's resignation was accepted by order of General Grant on January 15, 1863. More than one and a half years later, in September, 1864, he enlisted as a Navy seaman and served on the USS Springfield and the USS Great Western.
