William Charles Miller's
Brazilian passport

William Charles Miller's Brazilian passport for 1848

William Charles Miller's father, Joseph Dundas Miller, was a merchant and shipbroker. The first few children in his family were born in Brazil, one of the countries where his ships went. The family returned home to Liverpool when he was a few years old and he became a shipbroker like his father. In his early twenties he went to Brazil while carrying on the shipping business and a copy of his passport survived. In the document, the Empire of Brazil gives William Charles permission to remain in the country for two months and is dated 14 July 1848.
