Marriage Notice
William Brent & Catherine Walker Johnson
1805, Washington D.C.

Catherine Walker Johnson, daughter of Thomas Johnson Jr., was the first wife of Col. William Brent, clerk of the courts in Washington D.C. and short-term temporary secretary to President Thomas Jefferson. They were married in Washington D.C. on 6 January 1805. They had six children - five boys and one girl - before Catherine died in July 1822. She is buried in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, also known as the Carroll Cemetery, in Forest Glen, Maryland. After Catherine's death, William married Elizabeth Neale and they also had six children - five boys and one girl. My descent is through William and Catherine's oldest son, Thomas William Brent.

Catherine was known as Kitty - noted in other documents as well. William was a captain in the DC militia at the time of his marriage. Both were residents of Washington at the time of their evening marriage.
