Whitted Family Reunion
Seventy-seven people attended the Whitted family reunion held Memorial Day at Crane Park in Myakka City. Most of the picnickers were direct descendants of Elbridge and Caroline (Aldridge) Whitted who settled in Sarasota County (then Manatee county) from Boone County, Iowa in 1878. The couple settled in Oneca (then called Orange Ridge) where they grew citrus.

The oldest family member present at the reunion was 83 year old William Whitted of Sarasota, the son of Allen Whitted, who was the son of Elbridge and Caroline, and Allen’s first wife, Allie Mae Graham.

Allen Whitted’s second wife was Viola Walker. Viola was born in Arcadia, arrived in Sarasota County in 1895 and in 1900 married Allen. their children were Anita Whitted Evanco, Ila Whitted Corbett and Allene Whitted and sons Murray, Clyde, Belden and Floyd and Ruby Whitted Foy.

Present at the reunion were 11 children, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren of Allen and Viola Whitted.

Also at the reunion were the children of Viola Whitted and her second husband, Thomas McKendree, George and Christine McKendree Standredge, their children and grandchildren.

Others attending the affair included Vida Hayes Williams, Iris Williams Morris, Maude Yancey, Josie Willis, Hazel Douglas, Rita Brown, Iris Owens, Eddie Owens, Diana Willis, Lamar Buxbee, Warren Ponder Baccus, Lucretia Baccus, Lucianne Phiel and France Irene Gay.
