Obituary of George Shuttleworth Brent, 1886-1956





    George Brent Dies in City

George S. Brent, 69, of 240 W. Moreno St., died at Sacred Heart Hospital early Friday morning.

Mr. Brent was a lifelong resident of Pensacola, being the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis Celestino (Molly Shuttleworth) Brent.

He was a Navy veteran of World War I. He was associated with a tire company for several years and also was connected with the Brent Estate, which included the Brent Building.

Mr. He was a member of the American Legion and St. Michael's Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Andersen Brent; six sisters, Mrs. J.C. Watson, Mrs. Alba H. Warren, Mrs. John B. Mare, Mrs. W.O. Turtle, all of Pensacola, Mrs. Rufus S. Manley, Orange, Tex., and Mrs. Harold F. Fick, Coronado, Calif.; and three brothers, Thomas W. Brent and Robert S. Brent of Pensacola and William S. Brent of Orange, Tex.

Funeral services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Saturday in Fisher-Pou Chapel and at 9 a.m. in St. Michael's church, with Msgr. William J. Cusick saying mass.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be E. P. Scholz, L.S. Brown, Dr. A.M. Ames, Dr. W.C. Payne, Earl Hamel, William B. Wright, Fred Gage, Sidney Bell, Albert Vine, Edo Swaine, Will Davis, Jack Shoemaker and Harry Gould; active, eight nephews, Brent Watson, Sinclair Watson, Carol Watson, John Reese, James Turtle, Brent Warren, William Allenbach and James B. Watson.

George Shuttleworth Brent was born 27 December 1886 to Francis Celestino Brent and Mary Ella Shuttleworth in Pensacola. He died 25 May 1956 and was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Pensacola.

Sisters: Mrs. J.C. Watson was Catherine Merced Brent; Mrs. Alba H. Warren was Cora Emily Brent; Mrs. John B. Mare was Mary Ella "Mollie" Brent; Mrs. W.O. Turtle was Genevieve Anna Brent; Mrs. Rufus S. Manley was Celestine Angela Brent; Mrs. Harold F. Fick was Frances Louise Brent.

Active pallbearers, nephews: Brent Watson - James Brent Watson; Sinclair Watson - Edward Sinclair "Saint" Watson; and Carol [sic] Watson - Francis Carroll Watson - were sons of James Campbell Watson and Catherine Merced Brent; James B. Watson was their grandson. James Turtle - James Edgar Turtle - was the son of William O'Hara "Billy" Turtle and Genevieve Anna Brent.
