Mary Pierce Phillips was the daughter of Jarvis Pierce and Elewisa Hubbard of Harrisburg, Illinois. The obituary gives her mother's name as Elizabeth, but Elewisa is correct. She was born in Harrisburg and married Zephaniah in 1862. Mary and Zephaniah moved to Florida in 1882 and by 1884 were in the St. Petersburg area. Mary had two sons and three daughters, one of whom died as an infant. She is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in St. Petersburg, next to Zephaniah, but there is no headstone for her. This obituary appeared in the St. Petersburg Times, 17 January 1929.
