Mary Virginia Chilton was the daughter of Robert S. Chilton, 1823-1911, and Mary Virginia Brent, 1833-1921. Born in Washington D.C. on 25 March 1859, she was the fourth of eleven children. She was named after her mother, the daughter of Col. William Brent and his second wife, Elizabeth Neale. She never married.

She is buried, along with both her parents and many other Brents and Carrolls on land that had been the property of Eleanor Darnell Carroll, her great great grandmother, next to St. John's Chapel, founded by Archbishop John Carroll.
