Color portrait of Joseph Dundas Miller, 1792-1847, son of William Miller and Mary Spurstow of Liverpool. Married to his first cousin, Elizabeth Tomlinson, Joseph was a Brazilian shipping merchant, living in Brazil in the early part of his career where several of his children were born. The family later moved back to Liverpool. He died on the island of Madeira off the coast of Africa and is buried in the English Cemetery in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.
