1800: Jarvis Jr. was not born until 28 September so he would not have been included in this census. In the census, the household headed by Jarvis Peirce Sr. lists only one male.
1810: Next to the Peirce family in the 1810 census is Abraham Darby, possibly the younger brother of Rhoda, Jarvis' wife. In 1810, Byfield Pierce, older brother of Jarvis Sr., is also living in Craftsbury. Byfield remained in Vermont, dying there in 1852. 1820: There are 2 adults over 45: Jarvis Sr. & Rhoda; 3 younger males: probably Henry Ranger, Joseph Crawford and Merrick Porter; there are 4 younger females: probably Celinda, Mary Clark, Lucy Towls and Julie Ann. The township is listed as North of West. The names on the bottom of the page are from the Fox River precinct, an area just east of Carmi, so the Peirces would have been living near this area. 1830: Ancestry.com indexes him as Jarvis Purce. Another index spells Jarvis as Jarvier: Jarvis was married to Sally Wilkerson at this time. They had married in 1821 in Jefferson County. 1840: Jarvis is in Jefferson County where he is transcribed as James Pierce. There are five in the household but no female fitting Sally's age so she may have died by then. Jarvis remarried in 1845. 1850: Jarvis Pierce, 49, plasterer, value of real estate: $300, born Mass. Also in the household: Elewisa A., 42, Permelia C., 15, Mary E, 2, Ephraim H. Gatewood, 15, Nancy V.
