Rear Admiral Harold Foster Fick was born 3 January 1899 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the youngest of the four sons of Julius Benjamin Fick and Lillian Amelia Sleeter. He joined the U.S. Navy as an aviator after graduating from the Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1919. Harold married Frances Brent Whitted, a widow with two young daughters, in 1927. They traveled from one Navy posting to another until the end of World War II when they settled in Coronado, California. Harold died on 28 October 1985 and was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, San Diego.

The obituary appeared in the Pensacola Journal on Thursday, 31 October 1985.
