Obituary of Hamlet A. Bayley, 1836-1904

"H.A. Bayley, aged 68, father of Neville Bayley, the broker, died yesterday morning at his residence, 5595 Howe Street, after a long illness of heart trouble. He was a native of England and came to this country about 10 years ago. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Neville Bayley and Howard Bayley, and one daughter, living in England. Funeral services will be held at his late home tomorrow at 2 p.m." Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tuesday, 2 February 1904, p.4 Col.7

A notice of death also appeared under "Deaths" on p.5, col. 4 of the same issue. This notice spells his name as Bailey and notes that interment will be private.

Hamlet was the son of Esther Ashcroft and John H.R. Bayley and was born in Birmingham, England in 1836. His daughter, whose name is not given in the obituary, Annie Bayley Miller, is my great grandmother. The name of his wife is not given in the obituary nor on the record of death which lists him as married. In the 1900 U.S. Census, Hamlet is listed as a widower and is boarding with a Mary McCullough in Pittsburgh.

Hamlet was buried in Homewood Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Section: 9-2, Lot: 314, Grave: 1.
