John Bayley and his wife, Jane Smith, were both baptized in the same year, 1789. Although living in different counties, Gnosall was not very far east of Newport, where John was baptized. Jane was born in Wilbrighton, not far from Gnosall. John's parents were Thos. & Eliz. Bayley and he was their first child. He was baptized in St. Nicholas Church in Newport. Jane's parents were Thos. & Mary Smith and she was baptized in the parish church, St. Lawrence.
